Connections is gearing up for 2010 and would like your opinion as to what the priorities should be, as we move forward. We look forward to your input and help in creating “positives changes” and a more efficient criminal justice system for Montana.

Please mark the four issues you think should be a priority in 2010:

Mandatory Parole- release prisoners who have completed groups and have clear conduct after serving a sufficient portion of their time. Parole Board Reform- stop the use of denying parole using standard excuses like, nature and severity of crime and past criminal history more than once. There is nothing a prisoner can do to change either of those denials. Release of Non-Violent Offenders- release prisoners with technical violations whose consequences could be addressed in the community. Programs in Regional Facilities- educational, GED, college, vocational, groups, etc. More Community based Halfway Houses- allow community based organizations to help with viable housing for prisoners to parole, too. Funding for Transitional Services- (rent, utilities, meds, etc) many prisoners leave with nothing, they need monetary help to get started. Family/Friend & Community Involvement- do more to raise awareness of the prison issues and solicit support from family and friends, as well as communities. Oversight Committee for the Parole Board- the Board seems to be able to do whatever they want with no accountability. Oversight of Regional Services- regional facilities do not offer the same things as MSP, and do not comply with MSP policy

I would like to suggest another priority:
