Second Chance Act seeks applicants…
The Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention seek applicants to provide support to enable state, local, and tribal governments to develop and implement comprehensive and collaborative strategies that address the challenges posed by prisoner reentry and to reduce recidivism.
OVC biennial report to Congress…
This biennial report to Congress (NCJ 226030) outlines the activities and accomplishments of the Office for Victims of Crime during Fiscal Years 2007 and 2008. Each section summarizes victims’ needs in a particular area, such as terrorism, identity theft, or domestic violence, and illustrates how funding from OVC makes a crucial difference in the lives of crime victims. In addition to administering the Crime Victims Fund, which channels funds for victim compensation and assistance throughout the United States, OVC raises awareness about victims’ issues, promotes compliance with victims’ rights laws, and provides training and technical assistance to service providers and victim assistance professionals.

The tables in this publication provide data on the number of felony offenders in state courts, sentences received, demographic characteristics of convicted felons, and types of convictions. The report also covers comparisons to felony sentences in federal courts, using data from the Federal Justice Statistics Program (FJSP).
Major Civil Liberties Policy Advances For D.C….
President Obama, on December 15th, signed into law the Fiscal Year 2010 Omnibus Appropriations bill, legislation that includes several positive civil liberties provisions for the District of Columbia including removal of a ban on financial aid for low-income women to receive abortions, expanded benefits for domestic partnerships and an end to D.C.’s discriminatory school voucher program.
