January 2011 Update
Happy New Year Everybody,
Hope all of you had a great Holiday and are ready for the challenges of the New Year. We have a couple of changes at Connections. We have moved the office to a new location at 1195 Stone Ridge Dr. #3 Bozeman, MT 59718. There is no change to phone numbers, email or website. Instead of us being spread out in three different locations we are now all in the same building in two offices. Our other change is that we have a new intern until June, her name is Melissa and she will be working on updating and expanding the resource manual as well as helping Eddie and I with our HepC presentations across the state on. Marc is working on the Board decisions from July-Dec 2010 and those will come your way in the February Update.
As you well know the Legislative session is up and running. So far we have no news about our requests for Parole Board Reform or mandatory parole. There are over 2000 bills drafted and only a hand-full will make it through. Neither of our issues is a priority at this time, they are focused on Medical Marijuana, DUI, DNA and sex offenders at this time. I will stay in touch with the other agencies that are working with us on our issues and report back on progress next month. I am sending with this update the Board responses to all the inquires concerning the New Administrative Rules. As you will see they rejected almost all of the comments and did exactly what they intended to do in the first place. The Board blatantly ignores any comments from the public. This is a serious issue and needs to be addressed which is why we are collaborating with the ACLU and the Montana Human Rights Network to demand accountability for the Parole Board.
On a final note, current Advisory Board members thank you for another year of hard work, great insight and help trying to create “positive change” without you the outside world wouldn’t know the “Real Story.” Advisory Board members need to let me know if they would like to stay on the Board for another year. If I don’t hear from you by the end of the month I will assume you are not interested and won’t send anymore updates or newsletters. We would like to thank all of you so much for the cards of love and support during the Holiday season. We appreciate all of the prayers and kind words. We look forward to working with all of you this year and wish you many blessings in 2011.
