March Update 2017
Great news, our SB 228 revising the paraphernalia law to allow street outreach workers to be exempt has passed both houses and the Gov. signed off on it on the 23rd. I want to thank everybody who helped us get this passed it will make our work on the street a lot safer for us. I am sending you a list of all of our other bills concerning criminal justice and their standings at this point. New versions are available if you want to take a look at them. Most of them are doing pretty good so far, if your family wants to email the legislators concerning any of them its not to late and I would encourage them to get involved so that their voices as well as yours get heard.
I am trying to get caught up with all we have going on so please don’t give up on me. As you know my health is not good. I slipped into a diabetic coma and was in the hospital for 8 days, so for those that have been waiting on things or calling me that is why you got no answer on this end. I am back at work and on a new med plan so we will see how it goes. I am always here for you in my thoughts and prayers no matter what’s happening.
I’m looking at our list of Advisory Board members and notice a lot of our guys have been paroled so we need to fill those spots. There are openings at all facilities so please consider helping us help all of you by getting on the Board your voices are very important to us and without you we can’t help any of you. Members have 2 jobs 1.) let the population know what we are working on and that we are out here trying to make things better for you. 2.) let us know what the issues are in there that we can help with from out here. In exchange I will send you an update every month and the newsletters as they come out. I look forward to working with you and hope you will consider becoming a member.
Hannah is working with us again and we are so blessed to have her. She is updating the website and has created a face book page for us as well. She will be in charge of all media projects. She says she has time to put out the newsletter again. If she is going to do that she will need everybody’s help since that is your newsletter we need articles, poems, prisoners point of view, cell house recipes etc. so if you can help with any of that please send them to me and she will get started on that project.
The supervision fee class action is doing well, and still alive. I am still collecting names and forms so if you know anybody that qualifies please let them know and give them a form to send back to me or maybe you can collect a bunch and send them all together. However it works for you. There are 2 parts to the class action, first to get you your money back that you paid when you shouldn’t have and second if you were jailed, sanctioned, revoked or threatened because you couldn’t or wouldn’t pay that an extra $1000.00 a day. So please help us spread the word on that one.
I hope this finds all of you in good health and spirits, and thank you for your love and support for me and our staff. You are in our thoughts and prayers and we wish all of you many blessings.
