October 2009 Update
I hope all of you are staying warm since we are having an early winter. Last month I sent you the Board decisions for the first half of the year. Those numbers were their numbers and their version of how it breaks down. I on the other hand see the break down a little differently.
Out of 1478 people that had parole hearings only 23 got paroles in my view.
All of those that were given other placements (379) should not count as paroles because they are still on inmate status. If I’m wrong please feel free to straighten me out.
I am confused as to why so many of you (410) waived your hearings. I’m thinking not enough clear conduct or not finished with programs, is that correct?
And then there is the little more than a third of you (549) that were just flat denied.
Now this bothers me because I know a lot of you had solid plans, clear conduct and have completed many more programs than what was asked of you.
What I hear from you is you were denied because of the same old reasons, nature and severity of offense, and past criminal history. Those are two things that will never change no matter what good things you do in there. I was told once they could only use those excuses one time. I will research this and let you know what I find. In the meantime I would like to hear your comments on how to proceed and where to start.
On a brighter note, Marc has done a great job of getting the website up and running. After a week online we have had over 4,000 people accessing our site. They are reading your articles, poems, and voice of a prisoner articles. Marc posts other prison stories as well and they can read all about us and what we do across the state. We have upcoming events posted and a lot of other information for people to access. Marc is almost done with the next issue of the Lockdown Daily News so that will be mailed out soon. We hope you have enjoyed the last issue and that it has opened up some conversations and thoughts about what you would like to see in future issues. Thank you for all of your help and continued support. Please share our information with your friends and family.
Many Blessings to all of you.
